So Did You Ever Finish?

December 2nd, 2011 by Doug

I must apologize!  Time and life just seems to get away from us and much has happened since my wife and I started this project.   We have completed this cabin and started another!  We also purchased an existing cabin rental business too!  We have learned much over the past couple of years and are thinking about sharing, but finding time seems impossible.  Running a business and trying to raise 3 kids has been a challenge, but we are having a blast!

Looks great! Congratulations! Put a link to your cabin rental business on this web site. Maybe the readers here will rent it someday. 🙂 Good luck!

I really would like to know how all of this is going for you. I know you are busy, but updates on how you manage the business would be great. I have always dreamed of building a log cabin, but really want to make guest houses, like a mini resort of my own. I live in Missouri, have no land yet and feel like my dream is slipping away. It must be working out for you guys to have built another cabin as well as purchased some existing. I have researched logs etc since the mid 90’s and unless they go out of business I have a log producer I will use. Do you have trouble booking the cabins? Are you managing it all yourself or do you hire people to clean up between residents? Does this take all of your time or do you have other jobs too? I really would be interested in about anything more you could say about your business. Thanks, Cynthia

I’m in almost the same boat as Cynthia,(even live in Missouri). Due to the things I have read on Campgrounds losing money, I actually think it would be better to rent my (theoretical) cabins as “extended stay motels” at weekly or bi-weekly rates… I know extended stay motels allways get booked up, because people like cheap places to live…. but then you have issues with the eventual total pain in the butt people who will move into them…. However I understand eviction is much quicker and simpler with an extended stay motel than an apartment…I would really appreciate your input and experience before I make final decisions. Thanks!

    How did you get funding?

Hi I just found your website and you cant leave me hanging. We for sure need an update on where you are at with everything. Pictures would be nice, if you are currently renting it, if you built more cabins….
